All computers do the same to carry out the tasks we give them. The computer takes in data, it processes the data according to its instructions, it puts out the results, and it stores data for future use. These four processes together are known as the computing cycle.

All computers consist of hardware. This includes the computer and other devices. We enter data into the computer through input devices. They are: a keyboard, a mouse, a scanner, a modem and some others. In a computer, data is processed by the processor and stored in the computer's memory. We take data out of the computer through output devices. They are a display, a printer and some others.
