HOW I GET THE BREAKFAST READY

I put the table –cloth on the dining- table and put out the knives, forks and spoons, and the cups, saucers and plates. Then I go and cook the breakfast. I soon have the bacon and eggs cooking in the frying- pan. I make toast, boil the kettle for tea or coffee, and we are ready to sit down at a quarter to six.

ENGLISH BREAKFAST

A concept now surviving in the breakfast rooms of hotels rather than in British homes. An English breakfast is distinguished by a cooked course, consisting traditionally of fried eggs, bacon and sausage – with sometimes fried mushrooms, potatoes and in the north of England, black pudding. This is in addition to a choice of fruit juice, cereal, and toast of rolls with butter and marmalade, which on their own are described as ‘’’continental’. Both forms of breakfast are accompanied by tea or coffee.

A. MY BREAKFAST

I have my breakfast at eight o’ clock. On week-days my breakfast is scant: bread and butter, a cheese or a sausage sandwich and a cup of coffee or tea. I don’t care for cocoa. Sometimes I have fried eggs, sausage or cottage cheese, a bun or a cake, coffee or tea.

On my days out my breakfast is substantial. It consists of some cereal: semolina, rice cereal or porridge, curd pancakes, meat or cabbage patties and freshly-made strong tea.

B. KATE SERVES BREAKFAST

Kate is a waitress. She works at a restaurant in a new hotel. Kate serves foreign guests. She comes to work early. They serve breakfast from eight to nine. For breakfast they usually serve some cereal, butter, omelettes, cottage cheese, some jam, buns, gems, cheese and ham sandwiches, hard-smoked sausage, white coffee or tea with lemon.

Kate serves her guests very quickly. She likes her work very much.

15.C. BREAKFAST AT THE RESTAURANT “ARBAT

They serve breakfast from eight to ten. For breakfast they usually serve butter, an omelette, cottage cheese, hard-smoked sausage, ham, rolls, jam, black and white coffee, brown and white bread.

This morning our breakfast is delicious. It consists of soft caviar, well-boiled eggs, cold-smoked sturgeon, butter, fancy-cakes and coffee, black and white.

BRITISH AND CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST

British breakfast is varied and substantial. You can have juices, cereals, porridge, bacon and boiled eggs, sausage, mashed potatoes, fried mushrooms, tomatoes, baked beans, black pudding, hash browns, butter, toasts, tea or coffee and, of course, marmalade from oranges.

Mr. Smith works in an office. Every morning he has his breakfast before he goes to his office. Today he has orange juice, porridge, a well- boiled egg, black pudding, butter, toasts, and a white coffee.
