ЗАДАНИЯ

1.1. Найдите транскрипцию приведённых ниже слов в англо-русском словаре. Произнесите слова в соответствии с транскрипцией (см. Приложение1). Прослушайте слова (см. Введение.п. 2). (Find a transcription of the following words in the English-Russian dictionary. Say the words according to the transcription (see Application1). Listen to the words (see Introduction. item2.)

LOCAL NETWORK ETHERNET

Connecting to the Internet was considered to be a difficult task even a few years ago. Nowadays this task has become much easier due to the intro­duction of Ethernet. As a result, for the time being, the local-area network is most often an Ethernet network.

Ethernet is a long-standing network standard. Now it became possible to connect large numbers of computers into a single network. Many institutions that are connected to the Internet use Ethernet for their internal connections and professional communications. An Ethernet connection is known to have a number of advantages. To them belongs, for example, increased communi­cation speed. It may be equal to over ten megabits per second. The next ad­vantage is integrity of data. During Ethernet operations data loss decreases considerably.

Basic Ethernet connections include the following two components: wir­ing and protocols. As for the wiring used, it may be thick, thin, or T-base. The type of Ethernet wiring chosen is of importance since it helps to deter­mine the type of add-on Ethernet board that is needed for the microcomput­er being used.

Understanding the basic components of Ethernet and their functions provides a better understanding of how the particular Ethernet system op­erates.

Network protocols are the software program that makes it possible for the user to communicate with various brands of computers over a local or wide-area network.
