Read and translate the following dialogues. Work in pairs.

1.

- Good morning, doctor.
- Good morning, Mr. White. What's the matter with you?
- Oh, Doctor, it's quite difficult to describe my condition! The things seem to be awful. I've got all the illnesses you have ever seen during your practice. Perhaps I'm the first patient who will die in your study. First of all, I've got a terrific headache. It has been lasting since Friday and it seems to me that it'll never end. Besides I'm constantly coughing, evidently I've caught a cold. I have a sore throat and I haven't been sleeping for the last fortnight already.
- Please, don't worry. I'm sure, you won't die here or somewhere else. I'll try to help you. Have you taken your temperature?
- Of course, I have. It's 37.50 (thirty seven point five).
- Well, let me see... Open your mouth... The things don't seem so bad as you imagine. You've really caught a cold: your headache, cough and insomnia are the direct aftereffects of it. The temperature is not very high, and your lungs are all right, but I'll write out some prescriptions for pills and tonic... You have to take them four times a day during this week. Besides I have no doubts that you've been run down and you need to have a short rest.
- Really? May be you're quite right, Doctor. I'll try to follow your advice, but as for my rest... Unfortunately I have no time at all.
- But you'll have a nervous breakdown!
- Well, I'm ready to make my will and follow your advice.
- Good luck, Mr. White. See you later.
- Good bye.

2.

- Come in, please, and tell me what your trouble is.

- I haven’t been feeling well for some time, lost my appetite and cough badly.

- When were you last X-rayed?

- It was about two years ago.

- All right, let me see your tongue and your throat. Have you taken your temperature?

- It’s normal.

- Will you let me listen to your heart and chest? That’s all right. Well, it looks like bronchitis. You must have caught a cold. You’d better have another X-ray. Drink plenty of milk, eat lots of fresh fruit, dress warmly, get plenty of sleep and take good care of yourself. I’ll prescribe a bottle of medicine and a box of pills to take three times a day after meals. If you don’t feel better after taking the medicines, come again and let me have a look at you.

- All right, doctor. Thank you very much. Good-bye.

- Good-bye.

3.

- What’s the trouble?

- Well, I don’t know what the matter with me is, but I’ve been sleeping very badly lately and I’ve lost three kilos during this week.

- Have you been working very hard?

- I had some urgent work to do and I had to keep late hours as I was short of time.

- Well, strip to the waist, please. I’ll sound you. Your heart is very good. Let me feel your pulse. It’s normal. I think you must have a good rest. Do you smoke, by the way?

- Sorry to say, but I do. About twenty cigarettes a day.

- You must cut it down by half at least. Then take a leave and get to some quite place. I’m sure that fresh air, a change of surroundings will do you a lot of good.

- Will you prescribe me some medicine?

- I’ll give you some sleeping pills. Take them for a week. But I’ve already said that the best remedy for you will be a good rest somewhere in the country.

- Thank you, doctor. I’m sure to follow your advice.
