“Iva Nova is the coolest Russian female band”,
writes Russian Rolling Stone Magazine.
The ladies of IVA NOVA were inspired by the Slavic folk music, but they gave it a personal touch. A rather wild touch, we might add. Don't expect traditional Russian folk, these ladies rock a little too hard for that. But when the two lead singers do some harmonies, they make one think of Vartinna. Their sonic expression is girlish and playful, yet feminine and proud. And if the accordion player picks up accordion, she can make you dream of the Russian countryside. But when one of the singers picks up her guitar, she brings you right back to the big city.
The band was formed in 2002 in St. Petersburg, and traveled to Western Europe for the first time in 2004, after the release of their debut album. Ever since, they've been touring extensively, playing numerous clubs and festivals in eleven countries (even Iceland). In the meantime, they've released a second album Chemodan, an energizing and passionate recording.
Besides lyrics on Russian IVA NOVA have songs on Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Georgian and Tatar languages. Along with exploiting endless folklore resources they creatively experiment with other styles. Their live show is a mix of lyrical songs and punky-energetic dances.

IVA NOVA (RUS) Mä chtig energiegeladen, temperamentvoll verspielt, weiblich und stolz - so prä sentieren sich die vier experimentierfreudigen Damen von Iva Nova aus Sankt Petersburg. Sie bedienen sich bei der Folklore ihrer Heimat, aber experimentieren zugleich mit allen erdenklichen anderen Styles, sodass auf ihren Liveshows zwischen gefü hlvollen Songs und kraftvollem Punk alles mö glich ist und die musikalische Anarchie ausbricht! Iva Nova wurde 2002 in Sankt Petersburg gegrü ndet, brachte 2004 ihr erstes Album heraus und startete damit sofort eine beispielhafte internationale Live-Karriere. Seither touren die vier sympathischen Musikerinnen jedes Jahr mit ihrer unverwechselbaren und packenden musikalischen Art durch Clubs und Festivals in ganz Europa. Ihre Inspiration holen sie sich in der slawischen Folklore, aber ihre Musik hat daneben auch einen absolut eigenen und wilden Touch. Die Songtexte sind neben Russisch auch in Ukrainisch, Bulgarisch, Georgisch oder in tatarischer Sprache geschrieben. Wenn die Akkordeonspielerin ihr Instrument nimmt, trä umen wir sofort von den russischen Weiten. O seară rusească î n Moszkva din Oradea [cu Iva Nova]
E perioadă de secetă culturală î n oraş. Actorii se odihnesc, muzicienii au plecat î n excursii, elevii ş i studenţ ii sunt î n vacanţ ă, festivaluri nu avem, Gă râ na e prea departe… Avem noroc cu Moszkva Cafe, localul fă ră sezoane, un alt fel de casă de cultură î n care î ntâ mplă rile artistice cu nume nemaiauzite fac parte din rutina zilnică. Locul care “dacă n-ar fi existat, ar fi trebuit inventat”, vorba lui Orlando Balaş, cu care m-am î ntâ lnit acolo, vineri seara, la un concert.
Câ nd am ajuns, geamurile vibrau discret, semn că î ncepuse. “E abia prima piesă ”, mă liniş teş te domniş oara de la intrare. Pe scenă sunt patru fete: una la tobe, una la bass, una la acordeon, iar alta la keyboard ş i voce. Cea din urmă are lâ ngă ea ş i o tobă. Iar dacă pe scenă există o tobă, cu siguranţ ă că, la un moment dat, va fi folosită. Fetele sunt pentru prima dată î n Româ nia, î ntr-un popas de o seară î n drum spre Ţ ara Fă gă raş ului, unde au fost invitate la festivalul “In Transylvania”. Grupul se numeş te Iva Nova ş i vine din Sankt Petersburg.
Î n sală suntem vreo 30-40 de oameni. “Haideţ i mai aproape, nu suntem periculoase”, ne ademeneş te Anastasia, vocalista. Ultima dată câ nd am auzit o femeie spunâ nd asta î n limba engleză cu accent rusesc era î ntr-un joc de computer, pe care î l jucam acum vreo 10 ani. Dacă te apropiai naiv de domniş oara aparent inofensivă, î ncasai un glonte exact î ntre ochi, ecranul se fă cea roş u ş i trebuia să iei nivelul de la î nceput. Aş a că am ră mas prudent la masă. Am senzaţ ia că sunt î n concediu, hă lă duind prin Rusia, ş i am nimerit î ntr-un bă ruleţ î n care câ ntă o trupă locală. Genul acesta de evenimente î mi expandează universul fă ră să mă miş c prea mult.
Prin sală circulă o glumă. Cică Iva Nova e cea mai bună trupă rock din Rusia, după ce formaţ ia Pussy Riot a fost arestată. Lansez ş i eu una: dacă am fi fost pe vremea lui Ceauş escu, grupul Iva Nova ar fi venit din Leningrad ş i ar fi câ ntat la Casa de Cultură. Soundul trupei este surprinză tor! Amestecă sunete ruseş ti, slave, balcanice cu sonorită ţ i punk sau psihedelice. Ar suna mult mai rock, dacă ar exista ş i o chitară electrică. Dar chitarista a plecat din trupă. Apar, î n schimb, o drâ mbă, ş i o scâ ndură de spă lat rufe (la fel ca aceea folosită de Hanno Hoefer de la Nightlosers) cu care Anastasia provoacă sunete naturale.
Ca o jucă toare de tenis, acordeonista î ş i ş terge faţ a cu un prosop î ntre melodii. “E cald aici pe scenă ”, spune vocalista. “Dezbracă -te! ”, î i strigă, î n gâ nd, bă rbaţ ii din sală. “Î n Rusia s-a interzis fabricarea lenjeriei intime din ş nur. Uitaţ i ce trebuie să purtă m! ”, protestează elegant fetele, ară tâ ndu-ne niş te chiloţ i de mă rimea unor paraş ute. Concertul e o surpriză pentru toată lumea. Pe unii î i dă chiar pe spate – un scaun cedează fă ră avertisment, iar o doamnă ajunge pe parchet. Tot pe parchet au ajuns ş i ceilalţ i spectatori la piesa de bis: au ascultat-o aş ezaţ i “pe iarbă ”, ca la un festival. Un festival pe care Oradea nu î l are.
