National Flag

The National Flag of Kazakhstan is of light-blue colour with the sun and its beams in the centre, and soaring eagle under the sun. You can also see a vertical strip with national ornament. The image of the sun, beams, an eagle and ornament are gold. The light blue colour of the flag reminds a clean cloudless dome of the sky above us and reflects the devotion of Kazakhstan people to a high noble idea of unity.

The blue cloudless sky was always a symbol of peace, calmness and prosperity for all people. It corresponds to such features as honesty, fidelity and hope. The blue colour means “the sky” in the language of ancient Turks. These people were sky worshippers. They believed that the Earth is kept on the horns of a blue bull and painted it on their battle banners. They named themselves “light-blue Turks” which symbolized their love and fidelity to the Sky, considering Him as Father – Creator. The light-blue colour also meant the image of Homeland which was the original home of light-blue Turks ancestors.

This belief finds its reflection even today. The Kazakhs still build a dome above the tombs of their sacred people and painted it in light-blue colour, imitating the model of the World. The dome which is the spherical symbol of the sky rests upon four poles symbolizing the four parts of the world. The blue banner of the state emphasizes the purity of intentions for the people of Kazakhstan to build a new country.

The goal sun bathing in the beams personifies peace and prosperity. The yellow colour of noble, precious metal and at the same time the colour of the Moon and Sun mainly symbolize the Light dissipating the darkness of Chaos due to which the original World was created.

The eagle which is a king-bird soaring above all living beings is near to the Sky and the Sun. The eagle flies in the height in its proud loneliness.

From here appeared some concepts connected with the image of the eagle such as honour, free-thinking, independence, freedom, pride, great thoughts, majesty and vigilance. This bird symbolizes the depth of the steppe people’s soul which is always respecting pride and freedom – loving spirit of our multicultural country.

It personifies the generosity and greatness of Kazakhstan nation. It is also a sign of its power and authority. The eagle is a symbol of freedom, a sign of aspiration to great ideals and a flight to great dreams. This eagle stretching out its wings embraces over the wonderful open space of the largest state in central Asia unites Kazakhstan people joined by common historical destiny forever. It serves as a safe guarantee of our unity.

National ornament in the style of “the ram horn” located closely to the pole marks out the beauty of the flag. All these images are painted in golden colour. Today lifting up the banner we want the blue sky to be always above us.
