Satsvarüpa: They claim that we interpret even in word to word.






Prabhupä da: But how do you do? Just like dharma-kñ etre kuru-kñ etre [Bg. 1.1]. Interpret in different way this word, dharma-kñ etre kuru-kñ etre? It cannot be interpreted. And how do you dare to say that " We can interpret word to word." In the beginning, you cannot do it.

Paï cadraviò a: Well, their claim is you have to read the Gé tä in Sanskrit in order for it to be read as it is.

Prabhupä da: Now, now, in the very beginning it is said, dharma-kñ etre kuru-kñ etre [Bg. 1.1]. Now interpret. What is your interpretation, dharma-kñ etre? What is your interpretation, kuru-kñ etre? Come on, in the beginning. They cannot interpret anything.

Dr. Patel: That is what I said.

Prabhupä da: That we are doing. We give each word's meaning. Each word of any Sanskrit ç loka, we give the meaning. That is right.

Dr. Patel: That is the way I learned myself. I mean, a student of...

Prabhupä da: If one is serious to learn, he can learn. There is no difficulty. No, dharma-kñ etre kuru-kñ etre [Bg. 1.1]. Now, if he inquires, " The word is dharma-kñ etra. Why it is written kñ etre? " then it is grammar.

Dr. Patel: That is what I say. That is the way I learned.

Prabhupä da: So that, if he likes, he can learn it. Saptamé, adhikaraë a saptamé, sthä na, kñ etra, kñ etre, dharma-kñ etre. If he simply tries to learn the nominative case, the objective case, or like that, then he'll learn.

Prabhupä da: Saï jaya uvä ca. It is nominative case. Dharma-kñ etre kuru-kñ etre samavetä ù [Bg. 1.1], this is plural number, yuyutsavaù, plural number. Mä makä ù pä ë ò avä ç caiva [Bg. 1.1]. Pä ë ò avä ù is plural number, and when it is added with ca it becomes ç ca. The visarga... In this way he can learn. Eva, again sandhi. Mä makä ù pä ë ò avä ç ca eva.

Because Kå ñ ë a is speaking to one of the parties of the fighters, the Kurus and the Pä ë ò avas, and that is the beginning of Bhagavad-gé tä. Dharma-kñ etre kuru-kñ etre samaveta yuyutsavaù [Bg. 1.1]. Yuyutsavaù means two parties desiring to fight. Who are those parties? Mä makaù pä ë ò avä ç caiva [Bg. 1.1]. That is the beginning of Bhagavad-gé tä. That is the Mahä bhä rata history. So how you can differentiate this Kå ñ ë a, that Kå ñ ë a? There is no possibility, it is imagination. The beginning is Mahä bhä rata and the Bhagavad-gé tä.
