Be as pleased as Punch Быть очень довольным Punch is a character in a traditional children's entertainment who is always happy and excited.
Be in seventh heaven Быть на седьмом небе от счастья It comes from the Jewesh system of belief that there were seven heavens in ascending order excellence.
Be on top of the world Быть счастливым  
Be thrilled to bits Быть в восторге  
Be as miserable as sin Быть крайне несчастным Sins are things like murder, rape, stealing, and dishonesty that make the victims (and often those that commit them) feel miserable.
Be browned-off Быть грустным, уставшим от чего-либо, сытым чем-либо по горло It comes from a euphemism for 'buggered', it is actually of 14th Century English origin, the original phrase was to be in a " Brown study", where 'brown' = dark & sombre, 'study' = a daydreamy state. Meaning has shifted to today's meaning, and the phrase has become " Browned off".
Be downhearted Быть унылым, павшим духом  
Have a long face Выглядеть печальным  
Be in a cold sweat Быть в ужасе, бояться A reaction to nervousness, fear, pain, or shock, characterized by simultaneous perspiration and chill and cold moist skin.
Be rooted to the spot Быть не в состоянии сдвинуться с места от страха When you are afraid you often can’t move, so you are rooted to the spot.
Be scared to death Быть напуганным до смерти  
Go as white as a sheet Побледнеть от страха If someone is as white as a sheet, one's face is very pale, usually because of illness, shock or fear.
Be keyed up Быть нервным, взволнованным  
Be like a cat on hot bricks Быть беспокойным, не находить себе места A simile developed from the behaviour of a cat observed on hot bricks.
Be on tenterhooks Нервничать, ожидая чего-либо The tenter hooks were the metal hooks used to fix the cloth to the frame (the tenter). So it was not a huge leap of the imagination to think of somebody on tenterhooks as being in a state of anxious suspense, stretched like the cloth on the tenter.
Have smth on one’s mind Беспокоиться о чем-то  
Be all at sea Быть в полной растерянности It dates from the days of sail when accurate navigational aids weren't available. Any ship that was out of sight of land was in an uncertain position and in danger of becoming lost.
Be at sixes and sevens Быть в замешательстве In the 14th century all companies in London took part in a procession; the order was determined by the age of the company. The two companies, “Merchant Taylors” and “Skinners” were listed sixth and seventh, but since they were established at about the same time, the organisation in charge of the parade could not figure out which company was to go sixth and which was to go seventh.
Be out of one’s depth Ничего не понимать в сложившейся ситуации This expression alludes to being in water so deep that one might sink.
Be hopping mad Быть крайне рассерженным, злым  
Be hot under the collar Быть раздраженным, выходить из себя This expression alludes to the heat of anger.
Go off at the deep end Разозлиться, выйти из себя The deep water, which is at the 'deep end' of a pool, is dangerous. This phrase refers to that danger, but in an emotional rather than physical sense.  
Go spare Рассердиться, вспылить This is an expression that was in use before World War II. Probably from spare meaning " excess."
Avoid someone like the plague Избегать кого-либо Based on the literal meaning of the plague (a deadly infectious disease that spreads quickly and kills great numbers of people).
Cut someone down to size Поставить кого-либо на место, осадить  
Have a go at someone Критиковать кого-либо  
Tear someone off a strip Критиковать кого-либо за что-либо As you can imagine, literally getting a strip torn off you would be a very painful experience. Getting a strip torn off you in the idiomatic sense is often very painful in an emotional way.
Be gob smacked Быть очень удивленным As if smacked (hit) in the gob (mouth in Irish or Scottish).
Not believe one’s eyes Не верить своим глазам When you are very surprised you often don’t believe your eyes.
not knowing whether you’re coming or going Не знать, что делать  
You could have knocked me down with a feather! Я в шоке! Я сражен! I was so surprised that it was as if I was disoriented and could have been knocked over easily.
That’s a turn-up for the books! Вот это да! (реакция на неожиданное происшествие) The origin is in horse racing, where the book was the record of bets laid on a race kept by a bookmaker. So when a horse performed in a way that nobody expected, so that most bets lost, it was something that benefited the book and so the bookmaker.
