Exercise 3. Read the sentences about Helen Smirnova and arrange them in the correct order.

1) Here is a typical day for Helen Smirnova.

2) She goes to work by bus.

3) She gets up at 7 30.

4) She works for an environmental agency in Moscow.

5) It takes her 40 minutes to get to the agency.

6) She usually has lunch in the agency canteen.

7) She starts work at 9 o’clock.

8) She has breakfast at 8 o’clock.

9) She goes to bed at about 11.

10) After dinner she watches TV or goes out with her husband.

11) She finishes work at 5.

12) Then she goes home and has dinner.

Exercise 4. Peter Ivanov’s teacher of English is upset with her postgraduate. That’s what she says to him:

“Peter! I’m really upset. When you come to my classes, you always speak Russian and never speak English. When you translate texts, you make a lot of mistakes. When I explain grammar rules, you never listen to me. When I ask you questions, you seldom answer them. And you never do your home assignments. Sometimes I think you don’t like English at all.”

Now imagine that you are Peter Ivanov’s group-mate. Tell another group-mate why Peter’s teacher is upset with him.

Exercise 5. Ask and answer these questions with another student in your class:

1) What kind of movies do you like? (comedies, dramas, westerns, war movies, science fiction, cartoons)

2) Who is your favourite movie actor/actress?

3) What kind of books do you like? (novels, poetry, short stories, detectives)

4) Who is your favourite writer?

7) What kind of music do you like? (classical music, jazz, rock-n-roll)

8) Which sports do you like? (football, baseball, golf; hockey, tennis)
