Where We’re Going Graduate degrees in the School of Pharmacy are offered as part of an " umbrella" pharmaceutical sciences program. Ph.D. programs are offered in emphasis areas of Drug Delivery and Disposition, and Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products. In addition, M.S. and joint Ph.D. programs are offered with the School of Public Health in the areas of Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmacoepidemiology. The largest academic unit in the School of Pharmacy, the Division of Pharmacotherapy, offers extensive postdoctoral training, but does not currently enroll students in a graduate degree program.

Admissions Criteria:

Admission to our graduate program is a selective process. In general, over the last several years, successful applicants have achieved combined scores of greater than 1150 on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) for the verbal and quantitative sections, and have average grades of B or better (GPA> 3.0).

In addition, for international applicants, unless English is your first language, or is the language used in much of your studies, as in India, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a requirement. A total score of 550 or higher is required, with a minimum grade of 50 on each of the three sections of this test. The average score for new students admitted in 1998 was over 600.

Expenses and Funding:

Currently the University estimates the cost of graduate study at UNC as approximately $24, 150 per year for a nonresident student. Awards for teaching assistantships, as well as research assistantships, are given on an extremely competitive basis based on the availability of positions and fluency in the English language. A typical assistantship will cover the student's tuition and provide an additional stipend of $15, 000 per year.

How to Apply:
