• the Firth of Lorne, the Firth of Clyde, and Solway Firth.

• Loch Lomond (the largest), Loch Ness, Loch Tay, and Loch Katrine.

• the Tay; the Clyde, the Forth, the Tweed, the Dee, and the Spey.

Scotland has three distinct regions

- the Highlands

- the central plain or Lowlands

the southern uplands often referred to as ‘ the Scott country’

Scotland includes such islands as: the Hebrides, the Orkney, the Shetland islands.

The Highlands, the most mountainous area of GB, are a popular center for winter sports.

Scotland’s most important industries, steelmaking and engineering, are concentrated in the central Lowlands. Here are coal and iron fields and the largest shipbuilding yards.

- the Scott country - a hilly country with more sheep to the square mile than anywhere in the British Isles.

famous for its picturesque festivals, attractive sporting events (throwing the hammer, tossing the caber, running and jumping, originated from Celtic times, when competitions were held to find the strongest and fastest men to become body-guards and messengers).

Glasgow is the largest city, seaport and trading centre of Scotland.
