Poppy

Bright red lights flash out here and there in the green grass, along the sides of the roads and on the slopes of hills. In May all the steppe as far as one can see is covered by these fiery flowers –wild or field poppies. This plant can be seen in then territory of the southern part of our country. It grows in sandy deserts, in vast plains and on the foothills of the mountains. During the blooming period they occupy large fields of many kilometers. It seems form a distance as if someone has spread bright red cloth covering the ground. Why is your mood becoming festive while looking at these trembling scarlet fields? Probably our love for bright flowers is genetic. A field poppy or “кө кнә р” is a very ancient plant. Or may be we love it because its bright life is too short. The poppy fades very quickly. Its blooming must be over when drought comes to the steppe. Happiness, as it is known, cannot be long. Neither can the poppy. While its blooming finishes in the twinkling of an eye, it remains in our memory as a happy moment and bright joyful holiday. Since ancient times the poppy has been considered as a symbol of beauty, everlasting youth and female charm. It is thought to have various magic features. People say it can even scare away evil.

The poppy is a symbol of fertility as well. There are more than 300 thousand seeds in one box. It was customary for many peoples to put poppy seeds into the bride’s shoes for her to have a lot of children

Everywhere where the poppy grows people like it. There is a beautiful legend about the origin of this flower. When people first appeared on the earth, Nature had cared not only about their hunting and work, but about their rest too. She sent them Night and Slumber.

But they could not make Man, anxious with different problems, sleep. Then Slumber became angry and having stuck his staff into the ground went away. Dreams cloaked the staff by airy visions, the Night revived it, and the staff took roots, turned green and bloomed in a bright red color. That was the way poppies appeared on the earth.

Botanists discovered and learnt about a hundred species of this plant. It is the cultured poppy which blossoms a longer period than others. The bouquets from these flowers inspired many artists. Healers have found some medical features in it. There is a small amount of morphine and papaverine in the wild poppy as in the cultured one, but its petals are also used as medicine.

In the flower horoscope, the poppy is given a spring period, when nature having woken up from winter, returns to the violence of life. It is very easy to get under its charm and fascination and practically impossible to avoid its influence. According to the horoscope the Poppy makes friends easily and is able to lead people achieving his goal. It is always the brightest man in the society. But his way is not simple but full of difficulties. Only the person who is self-sufficient can achieve success.
