University






 

A university is a higher education institution which confers academic degrees in various subjects and provides undergraduate education or postgraduate education.

People attend universities for many reasons (for example, career preparation, increased knowledge, new experiences). Entrance examinations are usually held in July and August. Universities and other high institutions are headed by rectors, and the faculties are headed by deans.

People have to study in the university for 5-6 years. Universities prepare students in one or several specializations. Studying at higher institutions gives a solid background in all spheres of knowledge.

It is commonly known that higher education offers ample opportunities and opens all doors to people who want to get a well-paid job in the future. Studying at university prepares people for practical work and brings advantage of a good career.

Educated people have more chances to succeed in their life. Nowadays job market is more beneficial to those who have a higher eduction and to people with perfect knowledge and skills. Higher education helps cultivate such skills.

The higher education system includes public and private universities. Public universities are supported by the Government, while private ones are supported by various societies and bodies.

Universities can be divided into 3 general groups: universities of applied sciences, research universities, and international universities and other ones. Their classification is based on the level and type of teaching programmes they provide.

Research universities are mainly focused on scientific research. The students can choose between Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programmes and build an academic career or be employed.

Universities of applied sciences prepare students for a career in certain professions. They offer Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes.

International universities offer higher education in English. Their programmes are mostly at the Master’s degree.

Many people aim to get a higher education. Choosing a university is a big decision. Getting the best education tracks closely with choosing the field people aspire to pursue.

The most famous universities are Cambridge and Oxford in England, Harvard, Princeton, or the University of California in the USA, the Sorbonne in France. They lure the best students as well as the best teachers to their institutions. These institutions produce true professionals who have succeeded in their chosen field: Business, Medicine, Education, the Sciences, Engineering, Law, Economics, and Public Service
