Brainstorming:
In groups of two discuss the following matters and report to the class.
1. What countries make Central Asia?
2. What languages are spoken in Central Asia?
3. Is the Russian language spoken in Central Asia? Why?
4. What were the major reasons of Russia in expanding in Central Asia?
5. Do you know any Russian explorers and famous personalities who paid their contribution to the development of Central Asia?
Vocabulary:
Prefixes and suffixes are extremely powerful for creating relative words.
Model: mystery (n) – mysterious (adj) – mysteriously (adv) – mysteriousness (n) – mystic (a) – mystify (v) – mysticism (n)
Prefixes are often used to change the meaning of the base word.
Model: (ir- = not): ir+relevant = irrelevant = not relevant
Make new words with the base words, using the suffixes or prefixes. Sometimes you need to make small changes to the spelling.
