Modal verb - Should

(модальный глагол – Should)

 

Should – следует, следовало бы.

 

You should help him. – Тебе следует помочь ему (сейчас).

You should have helped him. – Тебе следовало бы помочь ему (раньше).

 

Task 1. Translate into Russian. Pay attention to the verb Should.

 

You should have come in time. 2. You should speak to her about this place of interest. 3. He shouldn’t have informed us about this way. 4. You shouldn’t miss the chance. 5. I should have rung you up yesterday, but I returned from London very late.

 

Task 2. Translate into English using Should.

 

1.Нам следует поторопиться. 2. Тебе следует быть более внимательным на улицах города. 3. Вам следует посетить эту площадь. 4. Туристам следовало бы поехать метро. 5. Моим друзьям следует показать этот музей.

 

Task 3. Give advice using Should and the words in the brackets. (Дайте совет,

используя глагол Should и слова, данные в скобках).

 

E.g

Her trip is not very interesting. (to know more about this place)

She should know more about this place.

 

1. The tourists are unable to follow what the guide is saying. (not to speak so fast) 2. I am afraid you will miss the train. (to take a taxi) 3. There is no exhibition in this museum. (to try the museum in the central street) 4. The tourists don’t want to go by bus. (to go by plane) 5. The child doesn’t know how to get to Trafalgar Square. (to take a map of London)

 

Task 4. Write several proposals how to improve the traffic situation in Yaroslavl using the Model.

 

Model: I suggest that drivers should be more careful.

 

Предлоги места

При указании на местонахождение или расположение (Where? Где?) лица или предмета используются следующие основные предлоги:

 

The museum is in the centre of the city. (in – в)

The painting is on the wall. (on – на)

The traffic light is under the bridge. (under – под)

Sochi is situated at the shore of the Black Sea. (at – у, на, возле)

Yaroslavl is far from Moscow, but it is not far from Rybinsk. (far from – далеко от)

He is waiting for the bus near the timetable. (near- у, возле)

In front of the college there are green trees and bushes and behind the building between the other two there is a big park. (in front of – перед, behind – за, позади, between – между)

The sun was shining above the great Russian river.(above – над, выше)

He prefer to go by bus. (by – на)

 

Task 1. Put the right preposition.

1. It is situated…the city…Volkov Square.

2. We see the girl standing …the bridge.

3. Tourists saw many people …the platform waiting for the train.

4. There is a beautiful garden…of my house.

5. I like to go …plane. It is very quickly.

6. Yaroslavl is situated …the river Volga.
