REGULATIONS

On the IX International Competition of Young Pianists

Named after S.V. Rachmaninoff

Veliky Novgorod

April 22 – 28, 2014

 

The founders and organizers of the Competition:

 

- Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation

- Culture and Tourism Department of Novgorod Region Administration

- Veliky Novgorod City Administration

- Culture and Youth Policy Committee of Veliky Novgorod City Administration

- Music Competitions Association of Russia

- Municipal Autonomous Establishment of Culture and Art «House of Music Named after S.V. Rachmaninoff»

- Municipal Autonomous Establishment «Center of Culture, Art and Public Initiatives “Dialogue”»

 

General Provisions

 

The IX International Competition of Young Pianists Named after S.V. Rachmaninoff (hereinafter - Competition) is held within the schedule of the X International Music Festival Named after S.V. Rachmaninoff in three rounds:

I Round – February-March, 2014 (qualifying round, by DVD (in absentia)).

Decision on admission to the II round is sent to all the candidates before March 15, 2014.

II and III Rounds – April 22-28, 2014 in Veliky Novgorod.

 

Participation in the Competition is allowed in one of the following groups:

 

A – pupils of ordinary children’s music schools and schools of art that are on the level of children’s music schools

Age categories: A1 – up to 12 years, inclusive.

A2 – from 13 up to 16 years, inclusive.

 

B – pupils of specialized music schools and colleges (specialized schools and colleges attached to conservatories).

Age categories: B1 – up to 12 years, inclusive.

B2 – from 13 up to 16 years, inclusive.

 

Correspondence to the age and group is estimated at February 01, 2014 on the basis of the documents sent with participant’s application.

The Competition is judged by an International Jury that includes well-known Russian and foreign musicians and teachers. The Chairperson of the Jury is Vladimir Manuilovich Tropp, Honoured Art Worker, and Professor of the Special Piano Department at the Moscow P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory.

Honorary Jury Member is Rachmaninoff’s great-granddaughter Natalie Wanamaker-Javier (San Jose, Costa Rica).

The Jury member who is somehow related to a participant of the Competition or is his teacher does not vote when the performance of this participant is judged.

 

Objectives and Aims of the Competition

- Development of piano performance traditions in Rachmaninoff’s native land;

- Revelation of especially gifted children in children’s music schools of Russia for further education in specialized music institutions;

- Attraction of public attention to music education of children;

- Increase of the prestige of the music teachers work in children’s music schools and specialized music schools;

- Breeding of the need in classical music perception, joining children and the youth to culture and art;

- Promotion of the image of Veliky Novgorod as the native land of the world-known musician Sergey Rachmaninoff.
