Past Perfect Tense






+ S had P3f/ed À ? had S P3f/ed À? – S had not P3f/ed À  
Past Perfect Tense is used:  
  rules examples
1. to express an action which took place before another past action or before a definite moment in the past A lot of refugees had fled into the country before the government introduced the new migration laws.
2. to express an action which began before a definite mo­ment in the past and continued up to that moment She had worked in this country before 1995.
       

Time phrases used with the tense: before, already, by the time, until then/last week etc., after.

Past Perfect Continuous Tense

+ S had been Ping À ? had S been Ping À? – S had not been Ping À
Past Perfect Contiuous Tense is used:
  rules examples
1. to express an action in the past which began and was in progress before another past action They had been discussing the new law for several months before they ratified it.

Time phrases used with the tense: before, for one week/hour etc., since.

Future Simple Tense

+ S will P ♣ À ? will S P ♣ À? – S will not (won’t) P ♣ À
Future Simple Tense is used:
  rule example
1. to express a single, stable or regular action in the future I will read this document right now. The scientists say that the temperature of the earth will rise.

 

  to be to have other verbs
I will be will have will correct/declare
you will be will have will correct/declare
he, she, it will be will have will correct/declare
we will be will have will correct/declare
you will be will have will correct/declare
they will be will have will correct/declare

Time phrases used with the tense: tomorrow, tonight, next week/month/etc., soon, in the future.

Future Continuous Tense

+ S will be Ping ♣ ____ À ? will S be Ping À? – S will not () won’t be Ping À
Future Continuous Tense is used:
  rule example
1. to express an action going on at a definite moment or during a defi­nite period of time in the future The President will be answering the journalist’s questions tomorrow.  

Time phrases used with the tense: when, during.

Future Perfect Tense

Future Perfect Tense is used:
  rule example
1. to express an action completed before the definite future moment or before the beginning of another future action By the time he becomes a citizen he will have lived in the country for 15 years.
