Culture

Omsk is a large centre in the Siberian region of Russia. In the Omsk Region there are more then 900 libraries, more than 1000 clubs, theatres, many cinemas, the Philharmonic society, the Hall for Organ music, many museums, the Institutes of Culture, the Shebalin Musical Secondary School. There are over 1000 monuments of history and culture on the territory of the Omsk Region.

The actors from the Omsk Drama Theatre, established in 1905, share their art with spectators in Poland, Germany, France, England, the Netherlands, the USA and Japan. They are a great success among Omsk spetors too.

The Omsk State Musial Theatre, established in 1947, has all kinds of musical genres in its repertoire: operas, ballets, operettas, vaudevile and musicals. The actors of the Theatre were on tour in many countries of world. The Omsk Drara Theatre for Children and Youth was establish in 1937, having worked to the persent moment for more than 70 seasons. Its actors fairly successfully took an active part in various theatrical festivals held in Russia and abroad.

The Symphony Orchestra of Omsk Philharmonic Society was established in 1956 and now its staff numbers 100 persons. AS a result of the All-Russia Symphony Orchestras Completition the Omsk Orchestra was recognized as the best and was awarded the Laureate title and the First Prize. Greatest contemporary musicians worked with the Orchestra. The repertore of the Orchestra includes a wilde spectrum of Russian and foreign composer’s music.

The Omsk Russian Folk Choir was establish in 1950. Its outstanding art was applauded in more then 25 countries including the USA, Germany, China, Britain, Italy, Israel, France and some others. The Omsk Local Studies Museum keeps many items from archeological expedition made in the Omsk Region. Besides, it exhibits many things representing the history of the place and the Natural we live in.

The Dostoevski Literary Museum keeps many manuscripts and things related to the literary activity of various talented and gifted poets and writers living in Omsk and the Omsk Region. One can find the manuscripts by Vsevolod Ivanov, Leonid Martynov, Fyodor Dostoevski, Anton Sorokin, Pyotr Yershov and many others.

Sports

Millions of people all over the world like sports and games. Sports helps people to preserve their health, keep them fit and makes them more disciplined in their everyday activities.

Physical culture and sports are included in curricula of all educational institutions. In every school or other educational institution one can find a gym and a sportsground. There are a few big stadiums and swimming pools in Omsk. There are also various sports clubs for amateur or professional sports. Many people became good sportsmen and a few of them world famous champions and even Olympic Champions. A lot of sports records were established by Omsk srortsmen.

Sports traditions in the Omsk Region are fairly old. One of them is regular countryside Olympiads which are held in summer and in winter over more than 25. Also, since 1990 every first Saturday in August the Siberian International Marathon and Road-Races take place.
