· Rekhä bhyukñ ana (purifying the lines with water):

Taking water from the abhyukñ ana patra he should sprinkle it on the lines.

· Agni Saà skä ra (purifying the fire):

From the fire which is kindled but not yet placed in the pit he should take one burning stick and cast it in the South Western direction to expel the inauspicious elements of the fire:

@Footnote: Fire can either be started by mantra, churned from the araë i with proper concentration, started from the sunlight by a magnifying glass focused on camphor placed on a bell-metal plate, brought from a lamp in the Deity room or from a brä hmaë a's house (meaning from his daily household yajï a). If none of the above methods are practical, then one can use matches etc.

agni-saà skä ra viniyogaù

oà kravyä dam agnià prainomi dü raà

yamarä jyo ‘gacchatu vipravaä ù

“I cast the inauspicious fire in charge of burning corpses far away. May those who oppose this rite go to the kingdom of death”.

· Agni Sthä pana (establishing the fire):

He should take a burning stick from the purified fire and place it on the third line saying:

oà prajä patiù viñ ë u å ñ iù

bå haté chandaù

ç ré viñ ë uù devatä

agni-sthä pane viniyogaù

oà bhü r bhuvaù svaù oà

· Agni Avä hana

He should then install the fire for weddings who is named “Yojaka Agni”

oà yojaka nä mä gnaye ihagaccha

agne tvaà yojaka nä mä si

ç ré viñ ë os-teja evä yam

“Oh fire named Yojaka Agni, kindly be present here. O fire of Lord Viñ ë u please come.”

· Agni Pü jä (worship of the fire):

Meditating on the fire as Viñ ë u he should worship the fire with articles beginning with pä dyam, etc.

@ Footnote: The sweet Form of Kå ñ ë a is not installed in the fire. Only forms of Lord Viñ ë u are installed.

· Viñ ë u Stuti (praise of Viñ ë u):

With folded hands he should say the names of Viñ ë u:

“Just as those with ordinary vision see the sun’s rays in the sky, so the wise and learned devotees always see the supreme abode of Lord Viñ ë u.”

kå ñ ë o hä u karmä di mü laà

kå ñ ë aù sa ha sarvaikä ryaù

kå ñ ë o ’nä dis tasmin ajä ndä ntar bä hye

yan maì galaà tal labhate kå ti

“Lord Kå ñ ë a is the color of a new rain-cloud, therefore He is compared to a transcendental cloud full of eternity, bliss and cognizance. He is the original and Supreme Person. He is the origin of all activities and the one and only Lord of all. He is the worshipful Lord of the best of demigods, the controller of Brahmä, Viñ ë u and Ç iva. Kå ñ ë a is without any beginning. Whatever auspiciousness is found within or beyond this universe the devotee obtains in Kå ñ ë a alone.”

“The fire from afar I place in front of me. I call near the bearer (the fire) of the oblations. May the Lord show compassion here”.

oà prajä patiù viñ ë u å ñ iù

triñ ö up chandaù

ç ré viñ ë uù devatä

agni-sthä pane viniyogaù

oà ihaivä yam itaro

jä taveda devebhyo

havyaà vahatu prajä nan

“May the remaining fire here, omniscient Jä tavedas, carry the oblations to the gods”.

· Brahma Sthä pana (installing and worshipping the brahma):

He may receive a Vaiñ ë ava brä hmaë a conversant with the rituals, alternatively he can make a doll of kuç a (kuç amaya brä hmaë a) and establish it as the brahma.

@footnote: In the case of receiving the kuç amaya brä hmana, the hotå (in this case the groom) should recite all the mantras.

He addresses the brahma thus:

“oà sä dhu bhavä n ä stä m”

“May you be comfortable.”

The brahma replies:

“oà sä dhu aham ä se”

“I am comfortable.”

The groom says:

“oà arcayiñ yä mo bhavantam”

“I will worship you.”

The brahma replies:

“oà arcaya”

“You may honor me.”

Touching the brahma’s knee with gandha, flowers, tulasé, cloth etc the groom should say:

oà govinda govinda govinda

oà tat sat
