In a hospital
I am a nurse. I work at a therapeutic hospital. Many doctors and nurses work at the hospital. Our hospital is very large. Work at the hospital begins at 6 o'clock in the morning. The nurses begin to take the temperature of the patients at 6 o'clock. They write it down in temperature charts. Then the nurses give the patients medicines and carry out other prescriptions of the doctors. They open the-windows and air the wards.
The doctors come at 9 o'clock in the morning and begin to examine the patients. Each ward nurse tells the doctor about her patients. As I am a ward nurse the doctor asks me about the condition of my patients. Usually I tell him that they are well. But sometimes I tell the doctor that the temperature of some patients is high and the doctor prescribes some new medicine or injections.
I like my profession very much. I know that much of the nurse's work can be learnt by practice. So I am very attentive and try to observe any changes in a patient's condition.

IMMUNIZATIONS
Immunizations work by helping your immune system recognize and quickly attack diseases before they cause problems. Some immunizations are given in a single shot while others require several shots over a period of time. Childhood immunizations give important protection against pertussis (whooping cough), polio, measles, mumps, rubella, influenza, and hepatitis B. Immunizations also protect against tetanus and diphtheria, although booster shots are needed every 10 years to maintain lifelong protection. If your children are immunized, these serious illnesses will not be a problem.

A LETTER
Dear Nick,
I couldn't answer your letter at once because of my sudden illness. Three weeks ago I caught a bad cold: I had high temperature, a running nose and I sneezed. As I am a future health-care specialist, I decided to apply home treatment. I bought some tablets for cold, a pack of mustard plasters and nasal drops.
In two days my temperature fell to 37.3C. But I had dry cough, especially in the evening. Besides, I was weak and lost my appetite. It was hard for me to breathe.
So, my mother had to call in a doctor. He examined me thoroughly. First of all, he took my temperature. It was subfebrile. Then he listened to my lungs and heart and diagnosed the case as pneumonia. So I was hospitalized. I have never been to the hospital before, and everything there was unusual to me.
First of all I was examined by the doctor in charge and taken into the ward. Soon the nurse took my blood and urine for analysis. I was prescribed the injections of antibiotics every 6 hours. In the evening the nurse brought an inhaler to improve my breath.
There was also one bed-patient in the ward. The nurse took his temperature twice a day, gave him a bed-pan, put cups and mustard plasters on his back and gave feeding-cups of soup, milk and tea to him. In the morning she took a basin and washed him with soap and a sponge.
As the treatment was very intensive, I recovered very soon. Although I felt much better, the doctor decided to X-ray my lungs. The result of the examination was satisfactory, and I was discharged from the hospital. The doctor recommended me to sleep enough, to eat more fruit and vegetables, to have regular walks.
