Mark the following statements True or False. 1.Typical CRT displays occupy less space than LCD displays.

1.Typical CRT displays occupy less space than LCD displays.

2.The size of the screen is measured horizontally.

3.Organic Light-Emitting Diods consume less energy and produce brighter colours.

4. The gas mixture in gas-plasma TVs is dangerous.

5. Dot-matrix printers have higher resolution than ink-jet printers.

6. Some multi-function printers accept memory cards.

3. What kind of printer is described?

1. In these printers the paper is charged electrostatically and attracts dry ink powder, as in a Xerox machine. The pattern is then baked in the paper.

2. The characters are generated by selecting the appropriate combinations of pins in a rectangle of rows and columns. Each pin is equipped with a coil, which, when energized, throws the pin against the ribbon, printing a dot on the paper.

3. These printers use a special chemically treated paper and expose characters onto it by some means such as a laser. The characters are then fixed onto the paper by heating it.

4. These printers operate by projecting small ink droplets and deflecting them electrostatically.

4. What kind of monitor is described?

1.There are three electron guns at the back of the monitor’s tube. Each electron gun shoots out a beam of electrons. These electrons strike the inside of the screen which is coated with substances called phosphors that glow when struck by electrons. Three different phosphor materials are used – one each for red, green and blue. To create different colours, the intensity of each of the three electron beams is varied.

2. It uses a grid of crystals and polarizing filters to show the image. The crystals block the light in different amounts to generate the dots in the image.

3. Inside the tube there is an electron beam which scans the screen and turns on or off the pixels that make up the image. The beam begins in the top left corner, and scans the screen from left to right in a continuous sequence, similar to the movement of our eyes when we read, but much faster.

Match each term with the correct definition.

1. phosphorus a. the frequency at which monitor reviews its image, measured in Hz
2. LCD screen b. a flat panel display which works by emitting light through a special liquid
3. pixel c. the space between a display's pixels
4. dot pitch d. the smallest element in a displayed image
5. refresh rate e. the total number of pixels on which the display is divided both horizontally and vertically
6. resolution f. material that emits light and produces colours when it is activated by an electron beam
