III. Look through the text once again and formulate the main steps one has to take to participate in the conference.

 

IV. You have received an invitation to a conference. Tell us what kind of conference it is going to be:

 

1) whether it will be a national or an international conference; 2) where and when it is to be held; 3) who is the organiser of the conference (under whose auspices it is run); 4) whether the problems on the conference programme are within the scope of your interests (whether the conference will cover the problems you are interested in); 5) whether you are planning to participate; 6) how you are going to present your material: whether it will be a poster presentation or you are going to read your paper; 7) how often such conferences are held in your field of science.


4.2.7 Answer the following questions 1 What is the headline of the presentation you are going to tell us about? 2 What is the heading of the last section? 3 Does the title describe the subject? 4 Under what headings does the subject matter appear? 5 What is the title of your paper? 4.2.8 Use subject or object instead of their synonyms in the following sentences 1 The aim of my paper is to present the basic ideas of the theory in question. 2 The author treats a great variety of problems. 3 The purpose of this volume is to analyze the character of …. 4 This is an excellent collection of articles on diverse topics. 5 Other topics dealt with in this book are regularly reviewed in scientific journals. 4.2.9 Insert the right word: subject, object or subject matter 1 The … of the textbook falls into two sections. 2 The … of my work is toinvestigate this particular problem. 3 I'm engaged in one of the aspects of the broad … of law. 4 The … of my thesis is arranged in the following way. 5 The … of thebook is of major importance. 6 The … of the paper is to give some idea about familylaw. 4.2.10 Translate into English Я хотел бы задать Вам несколько вопросов: во-первых, какова тема статьи; во-вторых, какова ее цель; затем - каков предмет исследования, и, наконец, очем она (содержание)? 4.2.11 Answer the following questions 1 What subjects are dealt with in your thesis (paper, article, the book you are reading)? 2 What is the subject of your research? 3 What is the object of your research (investigation)? 4 The subject of your research is of practical importance, isn't it? 5 How is the subject matter of your thesis (paper, the book you are reading) arranged?

 

Ex. 4.2.2 Confirm the statements below. Substitute words and expressions from the text for those in italics.

4.3.4 Speak about your own publications. Use the following questions as a guidefor your talk. Use phrases given in vocabulary (6.3) 1 What is the subject of your thesis? 2 Have you already published any articles? 3 Where and when did you publish them? 4 What are the titles of your published papers? 5 What problems do you deal with in those papers? 6 What are you going to prove in the course of your research? 7 Is there much or little material published on the subject of your research? 8 Who are your published papers addressed to? 9 What do you give much attention to in you published papers? 10 What is of particular interest in your paper? 11 How many parts does your paper consist of? 12 What is the purpose of your paper? 13 What do you treat in your introductory part? 14 What do you say in conclusion? 15 Whom do you make references to?

Ex. 28. Confirm the following statements. Fill in the blanks with adjectives derived from the same root as the words in italics.
