ЗАДАНИЯ

1.1. Найдите транскрипцию приведённых ниже слов в англо-русском словаре. Произнесите слова в соответствии с транскрипцией (см. Приложение1). Прослушайте слова (см. Введение.п. 2). (Find a transcription of the following words in the English-Russian dictionary. Say the words according to the transcription (see Application1). Listen to the words (see Introduction. item2.)

TELEPHONE LINES PROTECTION

Transmitting lines that serve telephone sets may have contacts with pow­er lines or with lightning. Therefore telephone sets and their lines need pro­tection. Protector units connected to the transmitting lines serve as protec­tion devices.

Usually a protector unit consists of carbon protector blocks connected between each wire of the line and the ground. Fuses are also the widely used elements of the protector block; they protect protocol blocks against power contact currents.

It should be noted that a fuse is an important part of protector blocks; without it power contact currents may overheat the protector or its ground conductor. Bui sometimes fuses are not used. No fuse is used in case the building is served by insulating wires that arc connected to metal-sheathed cables on the line pole.
