Глобальные экологические проблемы Земли

Global ecological (or environmental) problems of the Earth

It’s not a secret for all of us that ecology is under threat in today’s world. Partly it’s our fault. And all of the problems are connected.

Littering

Littering has serious environmental impacts. Littered items are one of the most visible forms of pollution in the environment. It makes our communities appear dirty, unpleasant to be in, and less likely to be used by the public. Litter dropped in streets, along the side of the road, or in bushland can be washed or blown into creeks and rivers and ultimately pollutes land, waterways and ocean environments.

Litter can be responsible for injuring or killing wildlife.

Billions of money is spent just to clean up the litter that many people have thoughtlessly tossed out on the streets and other public spaces. Imagine how much money could be saved and used for other more important things.

The waste that we create has to be carefully controlled to be sure that it does not harm our environment and our health.

Almost 2 billion tons of litter ends up in the ocean every year.

Urbanization

Big cities and housing develop quite quickly. They use thousands of square kilometres of green lands to make new roads, factories and buildings.

Why is it a problem?

Urbanization can also damage the environment. Building man-made objects often causes the destruction of wildlife habitat. A lot of species are endangered and on the edge of disappearing.

That’s why we need areas where housing will be forbidden of restricted.

We need such areas as parks and gardens. They provide us with the opportunity for outdoor recreations. They are full of clean air and they will be the lungs of our planet. These spaces provide habitats for wildlife.

Cars and air pollution

We can hardly find a family without a car.

They poison the air we breathe. The use of cars greatly increases the amount of carbon dioxide emissions.

Meanwhile, the amount of oxygen in the air has decreased in recent years.

That’s why some people are against them. They advice to use smth more eco-friendly, like a bicycle.

Greenhouse effect

Our planet gets energy from the sunsight. The Earth's surface absorbs some of this energy and heats up. Then the Earth cools down by giving off a different form of energy called infrared radiation. But before all this radiation can escape to outer space, greenhouse gases in the atmosphere absorb some of it, which makes the atmosphere warmer. As the atmosphere gets warmer, it makes the Earth's surface warmer, too.

It can lead to
