Англійська мова. 1. I've got an exciting piece of news for you






1. I've got an exciting piece of news for you. A group of American schoolchildren are coming to our school in a few days. They will stay with your families. So we need some information about your houses or flats.

а) Let's find out if you've got a house or a flat.

Example.

T→ CI: Have you got a house or a flat,...?

P1: We've got a house.

CI: Have you got a house or a flat,...?

P2: We've got a flat. Etc.

b) Stand in two lines facing each other. Pupils in Line One, you're responsible for the information. Ask questions. Pupils in Line Two, you're to give the information about your houses or flats.

 

2. Our American friends have come at last. Introduce yourselves to each other.
Example.

P1: (a Ukrainian boy/girl): Hello! My name is.... I'm ten.

P2: (an American boy/girl): Hello! My name is Clive/Ada. I'm eleven. Glad to meet you... /Happy to meet you,....
P1: Happy to meet you, Clive/Ada.

 

3. We continue talking about our houses and flats. Tell each other what kind of house/block of flats you live in and what house/flat you've got.

Example.

P1 (a Ukrainian boy/girl): My family and I live in a five storeyed block of flats. We’ve got a three-roomed flat. There's a sitting-room, a bedroom and a nursery in our flat. And what about you?

P2 (an American boy/girl): My family and I live in a 30-storeyed high-rise. We’ve got a four-roomed flat. There're two bedrooms, a sitting-room and a study in our flat.

 

4. We're at the meeting of our School Debating Society. The problem under discussion is " How to spend free time, especially on weekends."

a) Before we start our discussion, let's listen to Ukrainian and British schoolchildren who discuss the problem (an extract from the text " A Weekend in the Country").

b) Study the skeleton of our discussion. Think of your part in it.
P1: How do you spend your weekend?

      read books.  
      watch TV.  
    I visit our relatives.  
P2: As a rule, my friends and I   a bicycle.
    my parents and I ride bicycles.
In winter     in a one horse open sleigh.
  summer     in a car.
         
        skating.
        skiing.
      go sledging.
        fishing.
        swimming.
        windsurfing.
         
        some sport.
      play snowballs.

 


P3: And I prefer to.../I'm especially fond of....

P4: I don't like the idea of....

P5: If you ask me, I'd rather....

P6: I agree with you.


c) Discuss the problem in small groups of four or five.

 

5. You've been invited by your Russian/American/British friend to visit his/her native city/town. Tell the class about your plans.

Example.

P1: I'm going to visit Swansea. It's in the south-west of Great Britain. It's a long way from Ukraine.
T→ CI: How can you get there?
P1: I can easily get there by plane or by boat.

 

6. Try the geographical crossword.

Across

1. The largest city of the USA.

2. A town in Scotland.

3. The capital of the USA.

4. The capital of the UK.

Down

5. A town in the south of England.

6. A town in the south of Wales.

7. A town in the north of Northern Ireland
